No one likes to feel like they’re put in a corner and have no choice.
Redirecting Children’s Behavior educates parents on all of the choices
available to them when it comes to problem solving, discipline, building
self-esteem and strengthening relationships.

After an amazing weekend away with my husband, we returned Sunday evening
with dreams of reuniting joyfully and blissfully with our kids. Everyone
would be refreshed and extremely happy to see one another!

Well…let’s just say it didn’t happen like that. It was the end of the
weekend, everyone was tired from an amazing few days filled with fun
activities and before we knew it, meltdowns happened in a major way. Pretty
quickly, we were both filled with some pretty negative emotions and
unbelief about how sad the night had ended with our kids we were so excited
to see. We realized that our time away had blessed us tremendously, but had
also highlighted some issues we needed to work on with our children now
that we were home.

A few years back, before we had taken a positive parenting class, we would
have handled this situation a lot differently, and it probably would have
been pretty messy. Now? We were able to catch ourselves as we saw the
situation escalating, support each other to prevent unkind words from being
thrown, then as politely and silently as possible get the kids to bed. We
then fell into bed, vented a bit, took some deep breaths and got a good
nights rest. In the morning, we both were able to come together with a
positive plan on how we would tackle the problem, pulling from our RCB
tools rooted in kindness, empathy, compassion, yet also firmness. We were
ready to stick to some limits we agreed on were important to our family
(but maybe we had become a little loose on) and also come up with some
great ideas to serve as natural and logical consequences when challenging
behavior occurred. As we both parted ways to begin our week, my heart was
filled with hope and confidence that we’d solve this problem as a solid
team and that we had SO many choices on how to reach success.
