Fresh Start Fall Challenge – Lesson #3

by | November 8, 2017 | 0 comments

Welcome back to day #3 of our Fresh Start Fall Challenge!

Today’s lesson is all about some PRETTY TOUGH misbehaviors to handle with integrity…Revenge & Inadequacy / Avoidance.

All kids will dive into these buckets at some point, so it’s great to be prepared for them, even if your child isn’t doing these types of behaviors during this stage of their life.

Remember that your first step of action when any misbehavior arises is to stop and ask yourself, “How am I feeling?”.

THIS IS TOUGH parents! I’ve been teaching this work for nearly 5 years now & practicing it consistently in my own home for almost 7 and there are tons of time when I forget to check in with myself on how I’m feeling.

It’s so simple, yet so difficult to remember that this is our key to figuring out which mistaken belief we need to help our kid move out of.

When our kids are in Revenge, they’re often thinking “When I feel hurt, I must hurt other’s back to feel better” (often because that’s what’s been modeled to them….ouch, I know that statements stings for some of us) and when they’re in Avoidance / Inadequacy….they’re usually thinking “I’m not good enough to get this right” or “I just can’t.”

One of our biggest jobs as parents is to teach, so this is a wonderful opportunity to come in and help kids who are in Revenge learn how to take care of themselves when they feel hurt, WITH OUT hurting others.

For the little ones thinking they just aren’t strong enough or good enough to do what’s being asked of them (Inadequacy or Avoidance), we have the honor of mentoring and teaching them how to break BIG tasks into smaller pieces. Such an easier way to get things done….small steps, one day at a time, that all add up to one big accomplishment!

p.s. I’ll also be over on the #FreshStartFallChallenge Private Facebook Group at 11:30am (pacific time) today (Wed 11/8) for a live Q/A & a little extra coaching if you’re free.
