Friday 5! ? T O N E
It’s incredible the power that tone has in our lives to make people either want to or not want to cooperate with us.
When tone goes south, and we resort to the “lioness roar” or “commander” type of tones, we’ve usually lost our confidence and have dropped down into “fight or flight mode”. Usually this leads us to think “we better bring in some fear and force here or they’re not gonna listen!” Does this sound familiar? We’ve all been there!
So cleaning up our tone, goes hand in hand with becoming more confident in our parenting approach. I’ve seen how powerful it is for increased cooperation, listening & respect in homes when families soften their tones & work towards making them neutral (as much as possible…remember we’re all human here, we’re not shooting for perfection!).
Have confidence that you can STILL get your kids to respect & listen to you, even with out the intense frustrated, angry, defeated, or irritated tones…it just takes a little practice and perseverance!
Cleaning up our tone is an effective method when we want to come across as respectful, firm, kind & neutral to our kiddos. I’ve even had clients say this exercise helped them in the workforce to have co-workers or the team they lead react better to their leadership!
